The Cincinnati Bengals have made a significant addition to their defense with the signing of safety Bryan Cook.
The Bengals have reeled in seven new signings, with a focus on improving their defense, which allowed 235.1 passing yards per game last season.
The team is currently standing 16th in the American Football Conference with a 3-14 record, on a two-game losing streak.
Cook comes to the AFC North after four seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, where he notched 238 tackles, four tackles for loss, nine passes defended, three interceptions, and two Super Bowls.
He finished last season grading out as the NFL’s fourth-best safety with an 83.5 overall PFF Grade.
Jordan Battle, a former 2023 third-round draft pick, spoke highly of Cook in an interview, saying he's a playmaker who wants to get better every day.
Battle also mentioned that Cook is always asking questions to the coaches to find ways to make the defense easier and have more confidence on the field.
The Bengals will face the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on September 13, 2026, in their next game.
And with the addition of Cook, the team is looking to end its three-year playoff drought.
So far, the signings have sent a clear message: improve the defense.
The safety corps now includes Daijahn Anthony, Jordan Battle, Cook, Kyle Dugger, PJ Jules, Isaiah Nwokobia, and Russ Yeast.
But the acquisition of Cook feels like a significant move to boost their chances in the AFC North.
The team has invested $46.1 million in a three-year deal for Cook, who earned just $5.8 million from his rookie contract in Kansas City.
